THE Cottesloe Town Council last night deferred its controversial draft Beaches and Beach Reserves Local Law.
The decision was made at the Council’s monthly meeting and will see the draft law sent back to the Town’s administration for further examination and review before being released for public comment.
Council’s decision follows a similar unanimous recommendation by its Works and Corporate Services Committee on September 21.

Cottesloe Chief Executive, Carl Askew, said the referral would enable the Town’s officers to review the draft rules and to take into account community feedback.
Mr Askew said that Councillors at the September 21 meeting recognised that the original draft proposals required further work and recommended that the laws be sent back to administrative staff.

“The council respects the community’s right to enjoy the beach, however we have an obligation to act on behalf of the public where situations are considered unsafe or dangerous, or when public amenity and enjoyment is being affected,”
